I wanted to start with some basic computer information that will hopefully help people out if they have problems.

Firstly, the typical home computer consists of the main box (called the Case) where the On button is and where the CD Drive is, among other things.

The Screen is seperate and is either a glass or LCD screen. These come in different sizes, from (very old) 14 inch up to 21 inch (or more). Screen size is measured diagonally. The Screen connects to the Case with a video cable (this has a 15 pin plug known as a VGA connector).

Look on the rear of the Case where all the cables are. Standard designs have the Power Supply at the top (where the Mains Power plugs in) and usually have a fan in them for cooling. The fan is one of the first things that will stop working and will cause the power supply to overheat.

Under the Power Supply (if your case stands vertically) are the connections for the Keyboard and Mouse. These are typically colored purple for the keyboard and green for the mouse although many computers now are using USB connectors for keyboard and mouse.

Other connectors on the rear are for the printer (25 pin parallel for older printers - newer printers all use USB), the Video (VGA) 15 pin connector (some conputers have a seperate Video Card installed and may not have an `On Board` video).
